Small Penannular Shawl Pin
Penannular pins (or brooches), also called Celtic brooches, are clothes fasteners commonly associated with the beginning of the Early Medieval period (approximately 5th century-10th century) in Ireland and Britain. Penannular means forming an incomplete circle. These brooches can range from simply- designed to ornate works of art with gemstones and multiple metals.
A smaller diameter and thinner wire than my Penannular pin, for medium and lighter weight shawls and scarves. About 2” in diameter, with 2.75” pins. Sterling silver. Choose from round, hammered, or lined finishes. For the round finish, the round wire is left in it’s original state, just polished. A ball-peen hammer is used to texture the round wire and then the surface is oxidized black for the hammered finish, and the lined finish is created by hammering a teeny philips screwdriver into the round wire, then oxidizing the surface.
