Pyrite Drop Pendant

$46.00

The mineral Pyrite is composed of iron and sulfide and is often called ‘fool’s gold’ because of its resemblance to a gold nugget. The name comes from the Greek word pyr, “fire,” because pyrite emits sparks when struck by metal.

This pendant is a 10mm diameter round cabochon cut pyrite bezel-set in sterling silver. The simple setting complements the stone’s unusual surface—a shiny metallic bronzy-gold color with darker veins or flecks. The fact that this gemstone is partly composed of a metal, but is treated like a stone, then set in metal, is fascinating to me.

This pendant is about 5/8” long, including bail. Chain not included—head over to the ‘Chains and Cords’ section if you need one. Pictured on an oxidized sterling silver cable chain.
