Azurite Pendant
Azurite is a deep blue crystal that is almost never made into jewelry by itself, because it is rare and almost always very dark, almost black and are very soft, brittle, and heat-sensitive. It will also gradually lose their blue hue over time as they are exposed to air, heat, and light. A poor stone for jewelry! Luckily, it is almost always found mixed with other minerals like malachite and burnite, which improve the gem's durability. All three derive their color from copper—azurite it’s blue, malachite it’s green, and burnite its red.
This large oval cabochon stone has beautiful swirls of blue azurite and brownish burnite, with very little malachite. It’s prong set in sterling silver with a decoratively cut backing. A large piece just over three inches long, including bail.
